One Of A Kind Visions

Welcome to my world of sheep!
Sheep have produced a by-product year after year for centuries. Wool. Wool has kept us protected from the heat, cold, liquids,
fires and so many more.
I've worked with sheep and these by-products for over 55+years now. It began with 4H and graduated to a full life of Sheep, fibers and sheepskins. While Dick worked as the shepherd at 2 Universities, I opened a business - "Ovine Products" later changed to "Ovine Sheepskin Co" for all those city folk not use to the term Ovine! Primarily making sheepskin slippers, hats and mittens. The business later became well know for the Wooly Bears I designed and made from sheepskins. Although the store was closed while my girls went thru school, I was always thinking about what I could do next with wool. That’s when I began finding old wool clothing for rug hooking. I designed each of my pieces, cut the wool and hooked the piece. I the middle of it all, I became very interested in a new art - Needle Felting. While using a small needle with barbs, I learned how to poke into wool and other fibers to make all types of characters. My first being Kitchen for my girls, with witches and ghosts. I found my first pieces were those done for the Holidays. Turkeys, Pilgrims, Santas, Elves and so much more. Today I am working on all kinds of sheep of all kinds, animals, birds, Teddy Bears and Santas. I love to make up One of a Kind SPECIAL ORDERS

WHAT IS NEEDLE FELTING

NEEDLE FELTING is the art of mixing and locking fibers together. As some have termed "TANGLE" the fibers to each other.

With the use of a special felting needle, different colors and textures of wool fibers or animal fibers, a person is able to sculpt any and all of their visions.

Each fiber of wool and hair, has hundreds of tiny scales on them. All of these felting needles have tiny barbs on them. Some have more than others. As the needle is pushed into the fiber scales and comes back out, each fiber locks or tangles with another fiber or group of fibers.

This is where the artist decides where and why to tangle the fibers - where to felt a corner, circle, dent, hole, where to pic out the colors and textures of the fibers. They all need to be just right to show the artist's vision at that time.

Far more work and thought goes into needle felting pieces than many observers can imagine. The tinier characters can be a lot more work. The accents are so much smaller it can actually take more time.

NEEDLE FELTING is a true art as true as any other. We are taking our visions to make a figure, a flower, a picture, something you can use or wear - something that will give another person the chance to share our vision.
